about

I recorded the whole thing on my Tascam 424 mkII that’s been traveling around the country with me since high school waiting for cassette tape to be retro cool again. 4 out of 5 tracks were written during the 4 weeks of the 4 track challenge as part of the Bazaar Cafe Open Mic’s unofficial song of the week club.

Each song started with a couple of guitar or bass tracks followed by a live drum take + bounce down to get the stereo sound and leaving 2 tracks free for further bouncing fun. Notable instrumentation choices include the suitcase drum set I play as part of the Not Marys, a Yoga Ball when I got too lazy to set up my floor tom, a hand made clay ocarina sculpted to look like a pipe, octave pedal and fake analog synth using the Thor App for bass lines, a backwards banjo and a Melodica.

Mixdown happenned through a Behringer Xenyx 1204 with an Onerr DGR-1 reverb pedal and Boss DD-3 delay so it wouldn’t sound like I recorded trapped inside a cardboard box. My computer, usually responsible for so much when I’m recording, just captured the analog outs of the mixer and output the stereo files.

Shoutouts to Will Georgantas aka Thunderegg (thunderegg.bandcamp.com) Rozanne Gewaar (www.gewaarwordings.co.za) and Maurice Douglas for letting me know about this place. Tommy P. (www.facebook.com/tommypimusic) Keyana, Wesley Woo (www.facebook.com/WesleyWooMusic) Shawn Byron (www.facebook.com/folk.balladeer) and the unofficial song of the week club for inadvertently populating this collection. And to Jordan Singh-Vanderbeek (soundcloud.com/jordan-singh-vanderbeek) for starting said unofficial club. Take that Jordan.

TL:DR - I made some music alone in my room.

Normally I don’t make my music alone. Proof!
